Causeway Bay Projects Launch: New Towers, Waterfront Spaces Open Soon
Recent property deals and long-planned commercial towers reflect continued investment in the district's commercial and residential zones.
How we reported this

New World Development bought a 20 percent stake in three run-down Causeway Bay buildings for HK$1.28 billion in a recent transaction aimed at older properties in the area.
The move comes as several larger schemes advance under the land-use rules set by the Causeway Bay Outline Zoning Plan, which the government approved in January 2019 for the 96.43-hectare district. That plan separates commercial zones along Gloucester Road from residential areas in Tai Hang and So Kon Po.
Office and mixed-use towers advance
Lee Garden Eight, developed by Hysan and Chinachem to a design by Foster + Partners, is rising with three office towers that include green public spaces plus a health centre and an elderly day centre. One Causeway Bay, built on the former Excelsior Hotel site, is scheduled to open later in 2026 with office space, shops and restaurants aimed at multinational and financial firms.
These projects sit inside the statutory framework established by the 2019 zoning plan and are tracked on government and developer sites including the Hysan company page and the Harbourfront Commission records.
Harbourfront space already in use
The Typhoon Shelter Precinct, which opened in September 2022 next to Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter, added 10,900 square metres of public waterfront space that includes berths for traditional Walla-Walla boats. The precinct provides a completed example of the kind of shared harbourfront area now being planned around newer commercial sites.
Residents and businesses can track planning updates through the official government gazette notices and the listed project pages on Hysan and Harbourfront Commission websites. Further details on the zoning plan remain available in the Legislative Council brief published in 2019.
