Officials Unveil Five Footbridges Transforming Causeway Bay Starting 2026

The Development Bureau has released details on a pedestrian link project that will add five footbridges and a 100-meter covered walkway connecting Hysan Place to Lee Gardens and Caroline Hill Road. The structures are scheduled to open progressively from 2026 onwards, according to project documents posted on the bureau website.
Project Aims and Local Streets
The footbridges are intended to move pedestrians off at-grade roads such as Yun Ping Road and Leighton Road. They will also supply barrier-free routes from MTR Causeway Bay Station into the surrounding area. Officials have noted that the design responds to existing street-level congestion in those corridors.
The same set of documents places the new links alongside earlier harbour-front work. The revitalised Typhoon Shelter Precinct covers 2.53 hectares and already includes a 317-meter promenade beside Victoria Park Road plus harbour steps. That precinct was originally slated for completion in the latter half of 2022.
Earlier Road Projects Referenced
Records list the Central-Wan Chai Bypass as a 4.5 km dual-three trunk road completed and opened in 2017. It runs from Central through Causeway Bay to North Point. Prior works cited include the Causeway Bay Flyover reconstruction finished in mid-2007 and the WDII reclamation completed the same year to support the bypass.
