A government proposal presented to the Wan Chai District Council calls for shrinking its capacity from 40,000 seats to roughly 9,000 while adding an athletics track around the pitch. The SCAA-Jockey Club Stadium, rebuilt and reopened in 2021 with a 1,000-seat covered stand, artificial turf and additional tennis courts plus a jogging track, offers an alternative indoor-outdoor option for football and rugby sides in the same neighbourhood.
Private-school facilities add further capacity. Hong Kong International School plans to open a new athletics and activity centre on its Tai Tam campus for the 2025-26 year that will include two gymnasiums, a 25-metre pool and rooftop tennis courts. Christian Alliance International School and Ying Wa Hong Kong College field teams in the same local leagues and rely on a mix of these public and campus venues for matches in fencing, cross-country and other sports.

League tables show teams still competing despite the ground closure. In the 2025/26 Nan Fung Group AIRSIDE Hong Kong Premiership Men’s division after Round 13, HKFC Natixis Club leads with 49 points, two ahead of Societe Generale Valley RFC, while Causeway Sandy Bay RFC sits fourth with 34 points. The women’s premiership remains headed by Societe Generale Valley RFC after a 58-21 win over Causeway Sandy Bay.
