Dog Owners Combine Pet Exercise With Group Workouts in Causeway Bay
Causeway Bay dog owners combine pet exercise with group workouts at two central green spaces.
How we reported this
Victoria Park now hosts weekday morning circuits where owners run laps with their dogs before shifting to bodyweight drills on the grass near the Causeway Road entrance.
The pattern emerged after the district council opened dedicated off-leash zones in late 2025, allowing pets to join human fitness groups without separate permits.
Two sites drawing regular crowds
Victoria Park covers 19 hectares bounded by Causeway Road and Victoria Park Road, with its eastern lawn section reserved for dogs between 6:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. The Causeway Bay Recreation Ground on Leighton Road added a fenced dog area last March that fills for 45-minute HIIT sessions led by instructors from the local branch of the Hong Kong Fitness Association.
Both locations sit within a 10-minute walk of the MTR station, giving residents from nearby streets such as Yee Wo Street and Percival Street easy access before work.
Numbers behind the growth
The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department recorded 4,812 licensed dogs in the Wan Chai district by March 2026, up 18 percent from the same month in 2024. Class fees at the Recreation Ground stand at HK$25 per session, with the first Tuesday of each month offered free for new participants.
Organizers report 35 to 50 dogs and owners attending the 7 a.m. slot at Victoria Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays, numbers tracked through a simple sign-in sheet posted at the park office.
Residents can check current schedules on the Wan Chai District Council website or the notice board beside the Victoria Park swimming pool entrance. First-time visitors are advised to bring water bowls and waste bags, then join the group warm-up that starts promptly at the listed time.
