Sha Tin Residents Sprint Two Popular Weekly 5K Parkruns Every Saturday
Sha Tin residents line up for weekly 5k events at two main parks that draw steady crowds each Saturday.
How we reported this

Runners met at Sha Tin Park on Yuen Wo Road last Saturday for the 8am start of the district's longest-running parkrun course.
Interest in these free timed runs has climbed since early 2025 as more Sha Tin households add regular outdoor exercise to their weekly schedules. The local district council recorded a 22 percent rise in park permits for group fitness between January and June this year, reflecting the same pattern seen in other dense New Territories neighbourhoods.
Two routes that draw the largest fields
The Sha Tin Park loop covers a flat 5k along the Shing Mun River promenade before finishing near the amphitheatre. A second event operates from the open space beside the Ma On Shan Sports Ground, where the course follows the cycle track toward Wu Kai Sha and back. Both sites offer free parking and direct MTR access, with the Ma On Shan start located a five-minute walk from the station exit.
Sha Tin parkrun has operated continuously since its first event on 4 March 2023. Official results show an average of 178 finishers per week over the past twelve months, with the largest field of 241 recorded on 14 June this year. Entry remains free; volunteers time runners via barcode scanning and post results online the same afternoon.
Practical steps before Saturday
New participants register once on the parkrun Hong Kong site and print or save their barcode. Arrive by 7:45am for a short briefing at either location. The Yuen Wo Road site fills fastest on warm mornings, so runners often meet instead at the Tai Wai end of the river path when numbers exceed 200. Check the weekly email update sent every Thursday for any route changes due to maintenance at the sports ground.
