Stanley Launches Aquatic Programs, Draws All Ages to Local Pools
Stanley residents are signing up for water-based group exercise at local pools to build fitness routines that fit different ages and schedules.
How we reported this
The Stanley Aquatic Centre on Maple Drive opened its July session roster this week with 18 weekly slots reserved for mixed-age groups.
July brings longer daylight hours and more residents seeking low-impact movement after winter, which pushes demand at facilities that already run year-round classes in the downtown core and outlying neighbourhoods.
The Lakeside Facility on Pine Street added a parent-and-toddler lane every Monday morning at 9:30, while the Stanley Wellness Association hosts senior water walking at the same venue on Thursdays at 10:00; both programs use the 25-metre indoor pool and share lane space with the after-school youth squad.
North Stanley’s River Road community centre runs a separate adult lap swim on Wednesdays and Fridays starting at 6:15, drawing commuters who finish work near the light-rail stop two blocks away.
Session numbers and costs
City records show 1,240 people attended aquatic fitness classes across Stanley sites in June, a 19 percent rise from the same month last year; drop-in entry costs $8 for adults and $5 for children under 12, with a 10-visit pass priced at $65 available at both the Maple Drive and Pine Street desks.
Equipment such as kickboards and resistance belts is supplied on site, and instructors log attendance through the municipal wellness app so participants can track progress without extra paperwork.
Next steps for residents
Anyone can register for the remaining July slots through the Stanley Parks and Recreation website or by phone before 5:00 on weekdays; walk-up spots are released 15 minutes before each class at the front desk on Maple Drive.
Those new to water exercise are advised to arrive 10 minutes early for a quick orientation with the lifeguard on duty.
