Tung Chung dog-friendly parks that double as social fitness hubs
Residents in Tung Chung are turning waterfront green spaces into daily spots for joint workouts and dog runs that build both fitness and neighbourhood ties.
How we reported this
Tung Chung Waterfront Park recorded 1,200 daily visitors last month, with half arriving with dogs for combined exercise sessions that include group stretches and fetch games along the paths near Tat Tung Road.
The shift comes as Tung Chung District Council data from its June 2026 wellness survey shows a 28 percent rise in residents seeking outdoor activities that fit around work schedules near the airport and Citygate Outlets. Families and professionals alike report using these parks to counter long indoor hours in a district where many commute daily across the Lantau Link.
Two key locations driving the trend
Tung Chung Waterfront Park on the northern edge offers fenced dog zones next to open fitness lawns equipped with pull-up bars and yoga mats supplied by the Tung Chung Sports Association. Further inland, the open fields at Yat Tung Estate on Mei Tung Street host weekly pack walks organised by the same association that end with circuit training led by volunteer trainers every Tuesday and Thursday at 7am.
These sites sit within a 10-minute walk of most residential blocks in Tung Chung North and connect directly to the cycling paths that run toward the Tung Chung Cable Car terminal, allowing participants to combine dog exercise with longer routes before work.
Numbers behind the growth
Park records show membership in the Tung Chung Sports Association dog-fitness programme climbed from 340 in January 2025 to 890 by the end of June 2026, with sessions priced at 80 Hong Kong dollars per person and free for dogs. A council report released on 15 May 2026 noted that 62 percent of participants cited social contact as their main reason for attending, ahead of weight management or pet health.
Local trainers now schedule extra slots on weekends to meet demand, while the association plans to add shaded agility equipment at both parks before the end of July.
Residents can check the Tung Chung Sports Association website for updated class times or visit the park offices on Tat Tung Road to register on site before the next session starts.
